Co-Director of Field Operations, InvestED, Head of Communications, Kumasi Hub Global Shapers Community, Co-Founder M-DASC
Rya is currently the Co-Director of Field Operations for InvestED, a for profit social benefit education organisation which builds courses for low literacy learners and connects them to low interest loans. Rya is enthusiastic about unrestricted education. He is an autodidact, and a lifelong learner. He is a polyglot who speaks, English, German, Hausa, Twi, Ga, Pidgin, French, and four dialects of Ewe (his native tongue). He worked as an Associate Director for Mali during his early time with the Open University of West Africa (OUWA), out of which InvestED was born. Between 2012 and 2015, Rya dedicated nights and weekends to reviewing and writing refugee evaluation reports for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). He also helped monitor and coordinate the reports that marked the progress in ending child labour, with the International Labour Organisation (ILO). When he’s home, he plants trees communally – he does this through a ‘re-green the earth’ NGO he co-founded, Mad Dogs and Stray Cats (M-DASC). The NGO focusses on growing fruit trees in people’s homes and in neighbourhoods, as their bid of curtailing the quick decline of trees. Rya is a Global Shaper of the World Economic Forum (WEF), and he is also the Head of Communications of the Kumasi Hub of the Global Shapers Community.
