The Amani Institute will be dedicated to equipping the next generation of leaders of social change with the skills, experience and knowledge to fulfill their potential. While not explicitly a peacebuilding organization, we nevertheless believe that  peace is an essential accompaniment to all sustainable development activities.

Thus, our name derives from the Swahili word for ‘peace’. The root word, “aman” is also a formal word for peace/security/stability in Arabic, Farsi, Sanskrit (so Urdu and Hindi), Malay, and Bahasa. In other words, in every language from Morocco to Indonesia.

Although we hope to begin in East Africa, we intend to be a global idea and organization from the start.
